Forstau in summer
Hiking and mountain biking start at the front door, the children play in the fenced garden, and the region’s guest card gives you a mountain lift ride every day. This is what a summer at the Zonnen-Alp holiday apartment looks like.
How a summer day goes
Coffee on the balcony
In the morning you drink your coffee on the balcony with a view of the mountains, while the children bounce on the trampoline in the fenced garden.
Walking from the door
Hiking and mountain-bike routes start at the front door, with children’s trails. Around Forstau there are more than 50 kilometres of footpaths, and along the Bachweg you will find a Kneipp trail with several water stations and a medicinal herb trail.
Fageralm, without the gondola
In summer no lift runs on Fageralm, but the mountain road from Forstau gets you there easily. After a short, gentle climb you walk across the sunny high plateau, with a clear view of the Dachstein massif. There are several circular walks, and for a break there is the Berggasthof Trinkeralm.
Into the mountains with the card
With the guest card you ride a mountain lift of your choice up and down once a day. With a stay of two nights or more you can also take the Dachstein cable car up and down once; up on the Dachstein Glacier are the suspension bridge and the ice palace.
An afternoon in the water
There are swimming pools with slides in the area, and the guest card gets you into selected pools and lakes.
Back in the garden
The fenced garden has a trampoline, play equipment and a barbecue. Behind the garden runs a stream where children build little dams.

Walkers
More than 50 kilometres of paths around Forstau. The Salzburger Almenweg runs through Forstau via the Oberhütte and on to Radstadt, and on Fageralm you walk across the high plateau.
Day trips
The Liechtensteinklamm gorge, Hallstatt and the city of Salzburg are within driving distance. And the card takes you up to the Dachstein Glacier.
Good to know
- In the summer season the Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card is included; since 2026 the card is called the Schladming-Dachstein Card. It is valid from 1 pm on the day you arrive, throughout your stay and all of your departure day, and there is a digital version for your phone (schladming-dachstein.at).
- In summer no lift runs on Fageralm (reiteralm.at).
- From summer 2027 a mobility levy applies, collected with the tourist tax.
- In the summer months Joke is usually in the Netherlands. You share only the entrance with the owners.
- The minimum stay is three nights. You send a request and Joke replies personally with the price; only then is the booking confirmed.
