Families in Forstau
Forstau with children
A ski bus 50 metres from the front door, a large children’s area in the valley and a ski school that looks after the youngest all day: Fageralm is a ski area for families. This is what a winter holiday with children at the Zonnen-Alp apartment looks like.
How a ski day with children goes
Everything dry and warm
The house has its own ski room, so the skis stay dry. Wet ski gear goes in the washing machine.
Fifty metres to the bus
The ski bus stops 50 metres from the door and takes you to Fageralm. With a valid ski pass the ride is free, except for groups. No lugging small children and skis through the village.
First turns in the children’s area
In the valley there is a large children’s area, safe and easy to keep an eye on, where children learn to ski through play and make their first turns.
Ski school with lunchtime care
Schischule Resch, the ski school on Fageralm, runs children’s courses with lunchtime supervision, private lessons and snowboard lessons, and looks after toddlers all day. Ski hire is right by the valley station, at Sport Resch.
Three routes full of figures
Three children’s ski routes with colourful figures, obstacles and little tasks turn every run into a game. On the wave track they practise technique, balance and speed.
Up to the plateau together
The new Fageralmbahn, an eight-seater gondola, takes the whole family up to the sunny high plateau. Up there are wide, quiet pistes: 8 kilometres blue and 7 kilometres red, on natural snow on the mountain. At the very top is the Goliath-Genuss-Oase with a big swing.
For the whole family
For the youngest
A child’s cot and a high chair are available, and bed linen and towels are provided. The apartment sleeps five, in two bedrooms.
For non-skiers
On Fageralm you can also go winter walking or sit in the sun on a hut terrace. Around Forstau there are more than 20 kilometres of winter walking paths, with lantern walks along the lit-up Bachweg.
And in summer
A fenced garden with a trampoline and play equipment, a stream behind the garden for building dams, and the fitness trail of Forsti the hiking dwarf: about 2.7 kilometres of forest path with 12 stations. More in Forstau in summer.

Questions from parents
Is Fageralm good for children?
Yes. Reiteralm Bergbahnen call Fageralm the mountain for families and easy-going skiers: wide slopes, plenty of sun and safe runs. Of its 15 kilometres of piste, 8 kilometres are blue. There is a large children’s area in the valley, plus three kids’ ski routes with figures and a wave track.
Are there ski lessons with childcare?
Yes. Schischule Resch on Fageralm runs children’s courses with lunchtime supervision, private lessons and snowboard lessons, and looks after toddlers all day. Ski hire is available too, at Sport Resch right by the Fageralmbahn valley station. You book directly with the ski school.
How do we get from the apartment to the slopes?
Walk to the ski bus: it stops 50 metres from the door and goes to Fageralm. With a valid ski pass the bus is free, except for groups. At the valley station the Fageralmbahn, an eight-seater gondola, takes you up to the high plateau.
What does a ski pass for children cost?
That depends on the ticket and on when you book; Reiteralm Bergbahnen publish the current prices. Children and teenagers have their own tariffs, also for three-hour and from-noon tickets, the youngest ski for free, and at weekends children and teenagers ski for less across Ski amadé.
What if not everyone skis?
On Fageralm you can also go winter walking or sit in the sun on a hut terrace, and at the very top is the Goliath-Genuss-Oase with a big swing. Around Forstau there are more than 20 kilometres of winter walking paths, with lantern walks along the lit-up Bachweg.
